A REPORT ON THE 7 DAYS NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME SPECIAL CAMP 27.2.2024-4.3.2024

EQUITY, INCLUSIVITY AND SOCIAL WELLNESS
Day 1 27.2.2024- NSS special camp at Senneri, A.M.Jain College, Meenambakkam, Chennai-61 The inauguration was presided over by the Principal, Vice Principal, Office Superintendent of the college Prof.Baskaran, Former NSS coordinator, Center for Water Resources Management University of Madras, gave the inaugural address and motivated the campers. Prof.Baskaran emphasised the need for water conservation. The campers had evening games and the day concluded with Feed Back and Roll call.
Day 2 : 28.2.2024 : The day started with hoisting the NSS flag, taking salute and singing the NSS song. This was followed by morning exercises. Session one Gender Equity and Inclusivity by Trans Woman Delfina from Nirangal NGO. It was followed by Address by Selvi Madam, the Head of Irular tribal settlements nearby.
Session 2: 28.2.24 Group discussion on activities at the neighbourhood school.
Afternoon session 28.2.2024: Health and fitness by Dr.Jothi Dayanandan,Associate Professor, YMCA. Evening, the volunteers cleaned the vicinity of the camp site.
Day 3 : 29.2.2024 : NSS flag hoisting, taking salute, NSS song and morning Yoga session for girls By Jaidev Balaji, Yoga therapist Sai Yoga Samithi. Fitness run and exercises for boys. Morning Activity was organised at Panchayat Union Middle School, Senneri, Periyapotheri Panchayat, Chengelpet. Various games, quizzes, riddles, dance were conducted for the school children and Menstrual Awareness programme was conducted for the middle school girls by our NSS volunteers. Small tokens of appreciation were distributed to all the students and winners. The Headmistress and Teachers of the school thanked our campers' participation greatly.
‘Go green initiatives and sustainability’ was the theme of the talk in the afternoon session by Ms.Vaishnavi Sundar,Molecular Biologist and Immunologist, Genetic counsellor India, Full Bright school PhD,FIU, Miami USA.
This talk was followed by Cleaning activity by the campers, near lily pond and adjoining temple areas, extending till the Panchayat school premises nearby.
Day 4 : 1.3.2024
Morning NSS flag hoisting, taking salute and playing of the NSS song. Fitness run and work outs for girls and Yoga session by Mr. Jaidev Balaji, from Sai Yoga Samithi, for Boys.
A ten kilometre walk as field trip to places of worship with historical significance in the adjoining areas of the camp site was undertaken by the campers in the midday. Afternoon session was a interactive session on ‘Suicide Prevention and understanding Self-worth’ by Monisha from Nan Vidhaikalaam NGO. Professors from A.M.Jain college visited the campers and motivated them to be actively involved in the camping activities. Evening, Rangoli competition was conducted for campers in Irural tribal settlement. The leader of the Irular settlement Madam Selvi consented to be the judge and chose winners. Campers drew rangolis on the theme Equity and Inclusivity.
Day 5:2.3.2024 :’ Disaster management and First Aid Training’ an Activity Based session from Mr.Sanjay and his team from Sathya Sai Seva Disaster Management was conducted in the in the adjoining Irular tribal settlement. The events in the afternoon and evening included the visit by A.m.Jain college Professors who addressed the campers and motivated them and cleaning the areas near community hall in Irular settlement, by the campers. Evening, the campers had an invigorating Zumba session by dance master and choreographer, Dinesh.
Day 6: 3.3.2024
Morning NSS flag salute, NSS song followed by work outs. The campers cleaned the Lord Shiva temple premises conceding to the request of the village heads. This was followed by a Talk on Work - Life Balance by Ms.Shreya, Finance &Accounts Associate, Mettler Toledo Global Services India Ltd.
Post lunch sessions was - Culturals and Talent display 'Vibes' by the Rotaract Club of A.M.Jain College, with the support of the Professor In charge for the same Dr.R.Balamukunthan .
Day 7: 4.3.2024: The last day of the Seven days NSS Special Camp started with the usual morning routine and a virtual talk was delivered to the campers by Dr. Bharadwaj Nandakumar, Systems Neuroscientist, The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, Miami, Florida, USA, on the topic ‘Equity and Inclusivity in Education.’
The Valedictory programme of the NSS Seven Days Special camp organised by the NSS Units of Agurchand Manmull Jain College, at Senneri Village, Chengelpet from 27.2.2024- 4.3.2024, was presided over by Shri.Pannalal , Chordia, Management Committee Member who delivered the Valedictory address and congratulated the campers for the zealous participation in the camp. Prof.A.Kavitha , NSS programme officer delivered the welcome address, Prof.Mathangi.G, NSS Programme officer, presented the comprehensive camp report after the AV of the camp events prepared by the technical team of the campers. Prof.G.Murali, NSS Programme officer rendered the Vote of thanks. Prof. A.Venkatraman, NSS Programme officer was the Masters of the ceremony for the Valedictory. The Principal and Chairman of NSS Units of Agurchand Manmull Jain College, addressed the campers and wished them for enabling the smooth conduct of the camp. The heads of the Irural settlement, the panchayat heads, the headmistress of the school nearby graced the event. The chief guest of the Valedcitory was Padmashree Masi Sadayan , the member of the Irural tribe who won the civilian award for catching snakes and he shared his experience along with the other Padmashree awardee Vadivelu Gopalan. Their families were honoured by the other dignitaries. A dance was performed by the school students and they were felicitated for the same. Prizes were distributed for all the winners in the competitions and for their contribution in the camp. The Valedictory ended with National Anthem after the Vote of Thanks.
